Showcasing Hub Projects on the Global Stage

The Tasmania Forestry Hub’s work was recently showcased internationally through the Australia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, as part of the Sustainable Structures – Building Tomorrow program supported by the Australia–Japan Foundation.

The feature presentation was based on the Hub’s 2024 report, A Case Study: Commercial Building with Solid Timber Products in Tasmania, delivered in partnership with the Centre for Sustainable Architecture with Wood (CSAW) at the University of Tasmania. The report video, developed by the Hub, was expanded by CSAW and translated into Japanese for presentation at the event, highlighting Tasmania’s leadership in sustainable timber construction.

The case study examined six commercial building projects and engaged 30 stakeholders across architecture, construction and timber supply. It identified both the opportunities and barriers to using Tasmanian-grown and manufactured timber – including supply-chain coordination, technical expertise, and the influence of client leadership in material choice.
